Situation
Martin is a 68-year-old French man who has lived in the UK for over 40 years. He lives alone in a council flat managed by a housing association. His living conditions were poor, unhygienic, and depressing when he was first met. Martin has major health issues that then required multiple operations and he is on the Autistic spectrum.
Challenge
Martin faced significant isolation and communication difficulties due to Autism, his limited English proficiency and a speech impediment. His cautious approach to expenses and reluctance to trust caregivers added complexity to his care. Additionally, Martin had issues with his flat, necessitating a temporary move to a hotel, which required adjustments to his smoking habits and routines.
